2.24 — Weather, sounds and villagers
Rain, morning fog and winter snow, a world full of small sounds, six villagers with something to say, and new links between the skills.

Oakvale feels a lot more alive in 2.24. This one is about atmosphere, plus a handful of changes that tie the skills together.
Weather
The sky now changes every half hour, and it is the same for everyone in the world.
- Rain darkens the sky and leaves splashes on the ground.
- Fog rolls in on some mornings. You can see a little way around you, and not much further.
- Snow replaces part of the rain in winter.
- The Desert never gets rain. You get sandstorms instead.
The weather shows next to the clock in the corner.
Little things moving
Fireflies come out at night. Butterflies visit the flowers during the day. Birds take off when you walk up to them, and leaves drift down in the Forest. You can turn all of this off with the Particles setting.
Sounds
Footsteps that change with the ground (stone in the Mine, sand in the Desert), the swing of a sword, the axe on a tree, a splash at the pond, coins, level-ups, and quiet ambience: birds, crickets, the crackle of a fire, rain, wind and dripping caves. There is no music on purpose. Sounds have their own setting and a volume slider.
Meet the villagers
Six people now live in Oakvale and walk their own rounds: Bram the Smith, Wren the Fisher, Little Pip, Grandpa Alder, Mae the Gardener and Rolf the Guard. Walk up to them and they greet you; press E to hear more. Every one of them knows something useful.
Skills that help each other
- Bait. Worms from your crops and bread bait from the Bakery double your chance of a pike or catfish. Bait lives in its own box, not in your backpack.
- Cooked food gives a bonus for 3 minutes. Fish brings luck when gathering, roast meat hits harder, bread and pies refill energy faster.
- Tool handles. Iron and steel tools need an oak handle, silver and obsidian a yew handle. Make them at the Workbench.
- Trade draughts. Four new potions make mining, woodcutting, fishing or gathering 15% faster for 5 minutes.
- Rain matters. Fish bite sooner in the rain, and crops grow a little faster.
All of it is in the wiki.
