Wiki / Villagers

Villagers

6 villagers walk their rounds in Oakvale. Walk up to them and they greet you; press E to hear what they have to say.

Bram the Smith

“Mind the sparks, friend!”

  • A tool is only as good as its handle. A better handle swings truer and breaks less. Ask about it at the Workbench.
  • Copper first, then bronze, then iron. Skip a step and the metal just laughs at you.
  • Ore goes in the Oven, bars come out. Bring the bars to the Anvil and the hammer does the rest.
  • Helmet, shield, chestplate. Small monsters bounce right off good armour; the big ones, less so.
  • Sometimes a gem hides in the ore. Set it in your sword and every swing bites harder.
  • Listen to the hammer. When it sings, the iron is ready.

Wren the Fisher

“Shh… they’re biting.”

  • This pond keeps a few secrets. Folk say a rare fish only bites at dawn, if you’re patient enough.
  • Bait matters. A worm from the garden beats a bare hook any day.
  • Rain on the water? Best fishing there is. The fish come up to see what the fuss is about.
  • Pike want a stronger rod. Oak will do; silver if you’re after catfish.
  • When the float bobs, pull! Wait too long and the fish keeps your bait.
  • Cook your catch at a fire. Raw fish only makes the cats happy.

Little Pip

“Bet you can’t catch me!”

  • Did you know the bonfire tells stories at night? Sit close and listen!
  • I saw a bat in the Mine once. It was THIS big!
  • The fireflies only come out at night. One day I’m going to catch one.
  • If you run too much you get tired. Grandpa says walk sometimes. I never do!
  • There’s a scary gate down the road. The guard says only brave people go in.
  • The sheep in the Pasture are SO soft. The cows are grumpy, though.

Grandpa Alder

“Ah, a fresh face. Good day to you.”

  • Back in my day we chopped trees with our bare hands. Well… nearly.
  • Rest by a fire when you’re weary. Your strength comes back faster there.
  • Fog in the morning, sun by noon. The valley has always been like that.
  • The Ruins to the west are older than the village. Older than me, even.
  • Eat something when you’re hurt. A warm pie mends more than you’d think.
  • When the snow comes, the pond goes quiet. Enjoy the birds while they sing.

Mae the Gardener

“Lovely weather for growing!”

  • Rain is the best gift a garden can get. Crops grow faster when the sky waters them.
  • Plant, wait, harvest. Patience is half of farming.
  • Wheat goes to the Mill, flour goes to the Bakery. Bread for everyone!
  • Keep your plot tidy and it’ll thank you at harvest time.
  • Milk from the Pasture, an egg, some flour… and you’ve got pancakes.
  • Butterflies mean the flowers are happy. Happy flowers, happy gardener.

Rolf the Guard

“Halt! …Oh, it’s you. Carry on.”

  • Beyond that gate lies the Dungeon. Go in with friends and full health.
  • Clear every monster on a floor and the stairs open.
  • When a monster winds up, dodge! Space bar, or the 💨 button.
  • Hold your attack for a charged hit. It knocks them right back.
  • Nobody gets past me without a good reason. Or a good sword.
  • Quiet night so far. Let’s keep it that way.

Traders and other folk

Innkeeper
Runs the inn. She heals you for gold: the more health you are missing, and the higher your Combat level, the more it costs.
Merchant
Buys anything you bring and sells seeds, fishing rods, a tinderbox, copper tools, recipe books and potions.
Banker
Keeps your gold and items safe and pays out bank notes. A small fee is taken from the bank.
The Bride
Lost her ring somewhere in the Sewers. Bring it back for a reward.
The Wandering Merchant
A visitor who turns up in the evening now and then and hands out gifts before moving on.
Rolf the Guard
Watches the Dungeon gate.
